President Trump said early Tuesday in a social media post that French President Emmanuel Macron “always gets it wrong,” blasting the European leader for suggesting the U.S. is pursuing a ceasefire in the Israel-Iran conflict.

Mr. Trump, posting on Truth Social, was clearly angered by Mr. Macron’s assertion at the Group of Seven summit in Canada that Mr. Trump was seeking a ceasefire and, “since they can pressure Israel, things may change.”

“Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran,” Mr. Trump posted. “Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”

In separate posts, Mr. Trump said he did not reach out for peace talks in “any way, shape, or form” and that Iran erred by not inking a nuclear deal earlier.

“Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Mr. Trump posted.

Tensions between Iran and Israel are rising as the two countries keep launching strikes on each other over Iran’s defiance of giving up its nuclear program.

Mr. Trump left the G7 summit in Alberta a day earlier than planned, saying he had to attend to important issues.

The United States has said Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and Israel agrees. Mr. Trump has threatened that it will not be good for Iran if they continue to delay the signing of an agreement to end their building of a nuclear weapon.

Still, Mr. Trump has tried to distance the U.S. from Israel’s campaign.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Macron have an outwardly friendly relationship, but tensions simmer below the surface at times. The French leader, for instance, has been much more open than Mr. Trump about support for Ukraine and the creation of a Palestinian state.
