Maryland Gov. Wes Moore signaled Sunday that he is open to redrawing his state’s congressional lines to help Democrats counter Republican efforts in Texas and other states.
“When I say all options are on the table, all options are on the table,” Mr. Moore said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom and California Democrats were among the first to respond to Texas Republicans’ efforts to rearrange their congressional districts in an attempt to gain seats in the midterm elections.
Democrats have encouraged other states in which they control the state government to do the same, turning their attention to Maryland, New Jersey and Illinois.
That has put a spotlight on Rep. Andy Harris, the sole Republican in Maryland’s eight-person congressional delegation.
Mr. Moore said “we have to” consider redrawing the maps, while criticizing President Trump for triggering the redistricting arms race by calling on Republicans to find him more congressional seats.

“I want to make sure that we have fair lines and fair seats, where we don’t have situations where politicians are choosing voters, but that voters actually have a chance to choose their elected officials,” the governor said. “We need to be able to have fair maps.”
“We also need to make sure that if the President of the United States is putting his finger on the scale to try to manipulate elections, because he knows that his policies cannot win in a ballot box, then it behooves each and every one of us to be able to keep all options on the table to ensure that the voters voices can actually be heard, and we can have maps,” he said.
