A judge in Wisconsin has been arrested for trying to help an illegal immigrant avoid being picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
FBI Director Kash Patel said on social media that Judge Hannah Dugan was charged with obstruction.
“We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse,” Mr. Patel said in a post.
He identified the target as Eduardo Flores Ruiz.
Mr. Patel’s post was later deleted, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel confirmed the arrest, citing the U.S. Marshals Service, which said Judge Dugan is in federal custody.
The newspaper said a man named Eduardo Flores Ruiz was in Judge Dugan’s courtroom on April 18.
ICE officers arrived and went to see the chief judge. At that point, Judge Dugan sent the man out a side door and down a private hallway, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Mr. Patel, in his post, said the man managed to evade arrest.
